A skip hire alternative where we do the loading

If you are weighing up a skip hire alternative, a loaded van is worth a look. We turn up, carry everything out, load it and drive it away on the same visit. Nothing sits on your drive and you fill nothing yourself. It is not the right answer for every job, and below we are straight about when a skip suits better.

Side by side

How a loaded van compares with a skip

Both get rubbish off your property. The difference is who does the work, where it sits and for how long.

Who does the loading

With a skip, you or your builder fill it. With us, we carry everything out of the house, garden or garage and load the van ourselves.

Room on the drive

A skip needs a clear, flat spot for as long as you hire it. A van only needs somewhere to park while we load, then it has gone.

The road outside

With no room on the drive, a skip often ends up on the road, and that needs a permit. A van leaves nothing behind, so there is no road permit to sort out.

How long it stays

A skip stays until the hire ends, which suits filling it a little at a time. Our job is 1 visit: we arrive, load and leave.

Awkward items

Fridges, freezers, mattresses and upholstered sofas need separate handling. We tell you before we load which items are priced on their own.

The cost

Neither one is always cheaper. A skip has a hire fee; we price from what you send. Get both prices for your own job and compare.

When we fit

Jobs where a loaded van makes sense

A van works best when the waste is ready to go, or when you want it gone in one go without lifting it yourself.

  • Clearing a garage, loft or shed in a single visit.
  • A pile already waiting on the drive, in the front garden or down the side passage.
  • A house with no driveway, or a narrow street where a skip would block the pavement.
  • When you cannot do the heavy lifting, or simply do not want to.
  • The leftovers from a refit once the builder has packed up.
  • Mixed loads with a fridge, a mattress or a sofa among the bags.

We take care not to cause damage on the way out, and we sweep up where the pile stood before we drive off.

When a skip suits

Jobs where a skip may be the better choice

A skip earns its keep on a long project where waste comes out a bit at a time. Think of a kitchen and bathroom refit spread over several weeks, or a garden being dug out and relaid at weekends. You can throw things in as you go, and nobody has to come back each time.

It also suits a job where you have the time and the help to fill it yourself, and a good flat space on the drive to keep it on.

If that sounds like your job, a skip may be the better choice, and we would rather say so. You can still call us for the final clear up or for anything left over once the skip has gone.

Questions

Skip or van: common questions

Is a van collection cheaper than a skip?

+

Not always. It depends on how much waste there is, what it is and how long you need. Send us a photo and set our price against a skip quote for the same job.

Do I need a permit for a van collection?

+

No. We park, load and leave, so nothing is left standing on the road. A permit only comes into it when a skip is placed on the road.

Do I have to carry anything out?

+

No. We bring it out from wherever it is, whether that is the loft, the garage, the back garden or a side passage, and load it ourselves.

What about fridges and mattresses?

+

Tell us about them when you send your photo. Fridges, freezers, mattresses and upholstered furniture are kept apart from the general waste and priced on their own.

Which areas do you cover?

+

We are based in Theydon Bois near Epping and work across Epping Forest district and further into Essex. Check the areas we cover, or send your postcode and we will tell you.
